THE LINE OF THE DEVELOPMENT
As the word is changing rapidly, especially developing countries in the third world, there are more and more urban issues need to be solved, especially in spontaneous areas. The idea of the project comes out from the need of low income people for a special kind of space in which it can generate multiple benefits, solve urban space issues and more than that, has to be an economical structure.
THE ROTATION OF URBAN SPACE
The idea is to rotate the urban space diagram follow the opposite dimension since vertical becomes horizontal and vice versa. The result is brilliant with the interweavement between all different urban spaces together which represents as a multiple purpose layer structure. The concept is developed with major urban needs as well as sustainability.
KARACHI AS A POTENTIAL SITE FOR THE PROJECT
Karachi, a well-known place of many urban human settlements projects would be a potential example for the project. The general idea here is to place the architecture structure according to the urban structure of the city itself.
SUSTAINABILITY IN OPERATION
The project as well as aims at providing sustainability in running the Green Plus tower. The tower is not only sustainable in itself but also in relation with surrounded neighborhood. For example, the population could use organic waste from their kitchens for making compost in order to fertilizing the urban farms. The farm is fertilized by rain water and water from ditches. Additionally, people could start farming fishes in the ditches. In fact, fishes excrete waste which contain ammonia which will go into the purifying system to be broken down by bacteria into nitrates. After that nitrates will go through the pipes and are absorbed by the plant’s roots, returning the clean water back into the ditches. Moreover, Green Plus tower is lighted up by wind energy. With the height of tower at 22m, people could harvest energy for using light of 9W from 4 to 5 hours with ease (wind velocity is over 3m/s).
SUSTAINABILITY IN SPACE USING
As the need of multi space within a single structure, the building has to be flexible itself. The program of different layer is not clearly indicated in order to leave the space open for different purposes of different group of people such as night class, praying or self-study groups. However 1 or 2 layers will be functioned as a green layer which not only provides green for the area but also a vegetable source for the community.
SUSTAINABILITY IN MATERIALITY
Bamboo is used for main structure of Green Plus tower. Bamboo is widely used in tropical countries as low cost material. We could harvest bamboo after 1 – 1.5 years of cultivation, which will help the population fixing and re-constructing the towers. Furthermore, in construction material research of Lynne Elizabeth, L., and Adams, C., 2000; the compressive strength and hardness of bamboo are higher than timber and approximately concrete. The plus is that bamboo is also good for insulation, protecting people from heat in summer time.
